HE REAL BEAUTY

‘I've got a new red hair band,' Katie said to her friend Lucy.

‘How is beautiful! Can I try it on?' Lucy asked, but Katie wouldn't give it to her.

‘Do you like my pretty coat?' Katie asked her friend.

‘Yes, it's made of such beautiful material!' Lucy said, and she tried to touch it.

‘Don't touch, you'll make it all dirty,' Katie told her friend, so Lucy ran off to play with the other children.

‘Look at my beautiful book about animals,' Katie boasted as she walked up to the children.

‘Let's have a look,' they asked, gathering around Katie, but she snatched the book away and said:
‘Don't touch, you'll spoil it.'

‘Look at it on your own then,' the children said, and they ran off to play.

Katie started to feel sad. She sat on a bench and thought to herself: ‘Why does nobody want to play with me when I have so many beautiful things?'

Suddenly, a woman in a beautiful dress appeared and sat down beside Katie. Katie gazed at her sparkly blue eyes and could not look away.

‘I am the Fairy of Beauty and I'll help you, Katie,' the woman said. ‘Take this box filled with magical sweets. Eat them up, and you'll gain a beautiful quality. Then everyone will want to be friends with you.'

Katie was overjoyed and ate up all the sweets.

‘Who wants to try on my hair band and look at my beautiful book?' Katie said loudly, and all her friends ran up to her.

Katie didn't even notice where the Fairy of Beauty had disappeared to, but that night, she wondered what it was that the fairy had given her…

Short movement game: ‘We're all beautiful'

The children get into a circle. A ‘beautiful chair' is placed in the middle of the circle. The children walk round in a circle, and the teacher reads them a poem. When the poem has finished, the child who has been named sits on the chair. Then the game starts again, and another child is named.

We'll grow up tall,
And blossom like roses.
And everyone will see
How beautiful (Lucy, Adam, Jenny) is.
